I would like to introduce myself as being a Pet Care and Animal Rescue consultant. I am keen visit schools and to become involved with childrens holiday and out of school activities. I have a colourful presentation of informative graphics and images of our most popular companion animals. I talk about all animal’s wants, needs and behaviour, reflecting on the importance of focusing on the needs of other creatures in the world and not just ourselves and encouraging children to realize that living things deserve respect and that they have responsibilities to meet these needs. I use the rabbit as my example as it would be both confusing and impossible to expand on each individual animal or bird. I can show a live rabbit and use other ‘props’ to make sure the presentation is fun, interactive and enjoyable to watch. I would be delighted to speak to large or smaller groups. I have been involved with rabbit and animal rescue for seventeen years and during that time have explored many avenues of care for them. I have attended many veterinary courses organized by the Royal Veterinary College and organized the UK’s first and a further four veterinary surgeons rabbit conferences. I have lectured and also appeared in Journals, Newspapers, Radio and TV including ‘Blue Peter’, ‘Animal Hospital’, ‘Richard and Judy’ plus various animal programmes. For the last few years I had a very successful and enjoyable time visiting schools and organisations talking to groups and assemblies of young people from three year olds to veterinary students on the various aspects of keeping and looking after small animals. The sessions were interactive with common questions and answers. I was extremely impressed by the student's involvement on the subject and the intelligent questions they asked, which proved to me they had listened, absorbed and were interested. We are a nation of animal lovers where animal neglect and cruelty is mainly due to ignorance. We need to teach our young people more about the responsibility, the handling and husbandry of small animals and feel strongly that this information should be given at an early age. Many thanks and Regards.
